Today we visited a farm nearby the house we are staying in, and learned about the agricultural life in Cerro Punta. Abel told us about the many indigenous people who live off the land, and how they sell their produce. Lots of these indigenous groups work and live in protected and self governing areas. After lunch, we went into town to visit a cafe and Señora Ramira’s garden. Señora Ramira has been cooking our food for us at this house and in the cabins at the cloud forest, and the cafe is owned by her daughter who serves strawberry flavored drinks and treats. Señora Ramira has been developing her garden for over 45 years, and she grows her own tea leaves which she has shared with us many times. We all enjoyed learning about her garden and seeing all of its beautiful flowers, succulents, trees, herbs, and vegetables. We learned a lot from Abel and Señora Ramira about the cloud forest and Chiriqui as a whole, and we’re excited to see what Guararé has in store for us!
