Our trip to La Isla Iguana

Hola, this is Max, Josh, and Lucas.

Yesterday, we went to Iguana Island, or, La Isla Iguana, with Jayson’s host father, Capitán Negro, who is a fisherman in Pedasí. He took us to his boat docked at la playa Arenal, and we all got in and went to the island about five miles from the beach. The temperature was very nice with the breeze and the water was perfect. He bought us some fire oatmeal cookies, soda, and orange juice that we ate and drank on the boat. We arrived at the island very soon. The first thing we noticed was the large amount of birds circling the island – we learned they are called frigate birds, and the fact that they were above the island and not the water meant that we probably weren’t going to catch anything. Capitán Negro let us stay at Iguana Island for about half an hour while he fished and then picked us up to fish together more. The water at the island beach was incredibly clear and we rented a pair of goggles to look at the fish underwater. After swimming and looking at lots of fishes and crabs, Capitán Negro picked us up and we fished for an hour or two. He told us he was fishing for tuna which are not easy to catch, and we didn’t get anything. He was more upset than we were as weliked riding in the boat and swimming on the island mostly. While driving home, he mentioned that he wanted to take us out again “when the birds are helping” so we hope to have the opportunity to get out on the water again and hopefully catch something.
